Manipur – RSS, Manipur Seva Samiti, Seva Bharati, Launch Relief Operations in Flood-Hit areas
Imphal, September 17, 2025.
As devastating floods swept across Manipur from September 14 to 17, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Manipur, Manipur Seva Samiti and Seva Bharati Manipur, began extending urgent relief measures in the worst-affected areas. On Wednesday, Swamsevaks of Thoubal Jilla distributed essential supplies to around 300 households in Thoubal Haokha, including drinking water, rice, clothes, and other necessities. Relief efforts are also being coordinated with local clubs, volunteers, and karyakartas to reach other parts of the state.
Flood Situation in Districts
Imphal East: Localities such as Kshetri Awang Leikai, Kongba, and Khurai faced severe flooding after the Iril River breached its embankment. The Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) at Porompat was inundated, forcing evacuation of patients.
Imphal West: Waterlogging crippled daily life in Uripok, Sagolband, Lamphelpat, and nearby colonies.
Thoubal: Haokha, Wangjing, Yairipok, and surrounding villages bore the brunt of floodwaters. The washing away of the Yairipok iron bridge added to the crisis.
Other districts: Ukhrul witnessed landslides cutting off road connectivity, while Bishnupur and Kakching reported submerged farmland and residential areas.
The Manipur government declared holidays for schools and colleges in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching districts as a precaution. Several government offices and markets were partially inundated, while basic services like power and water supply were disrupted in some areas.
Alongside RSS, Manipur Seva Samiti and Seva Bharati’s initiatives, state agencies including the SDRF, Army, and Assam Rifles have been deployed for rescue and evacuation. Relief camps have been opened in affected villages, where food, medicines, and safe drinking water are being distributed.
While rainfall has eased slightly, rivers in the valley continue to flow above danger levels. Authorities have warned that embankments remain fragile and urged residents of low-lying areas to stay alert. Relief and rehabilitation work is expected to continue over the coming days.
