Assam to be self-reliant soon: CM Sarma
Guwahati: Respecting the commitment of Assam government, State chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday distributed five thousand cheques to the women beneficiaries to incentivise them to maintain good credit discipline at a program organised at Tinsukia.
Under the initiative ‘Assam Micro-finance Incentive and Relief Scheme’ for category one meaning prompt payers the cheques amounting to rupees 25 thousand per beneficiary (or outstanding amount whichever is lower) were distributed.
Addressing a public meeting there, Sharma emphasized on building a work culture in the State and asserted that new Assam should be created taking advantage of the new environment. Assam desperately needs the work culture and for that a working mentality must be developed, added Sarma. He expressed displeasure that Assam has to bring various commodities, including the eggs from outside the state.
Quoting a song by Bhupen Hazarika, Sarma remarked that the world would definitely laugh at the Assamese if a huge market like Assam can not become self-reliant after 75 years of independence. ‘If we love land and mother, we have to create a new environment in Assam’, asserted Sarma, adding that in the coming 10 years, Assam must develop a movement of work culture.
Earlier, Sarma visited Sri Sri Mayamara Dinjaya Satra at Chabua and paid deep respects to recently departed Satradhikar Yogadananda Goswami. He also visited Dicham Deva Satra at Dumduma and prayed for the welfare of all sections of the people in Assam. He spent some time with the devotees in both places before departure.
