Result of impersonation in Kattakkata Christian College UUC election
Kochi (VSK). Kerala Varsity Syndicate disqualified 39 student union councilors (UUCs) elected to Kerala Varsity Students Union, as their elections were in violation of the conditions proposed by Lyngdoh Committee which were endorsed by the highest court of the land. The Syndicate action is the result of the varsity enquiry in view of the impersonation case in Christian College, Kattakada, Thiruvananthapuram. Principal of the college had given the name of SFI leader A. Visakh to the university instead of the name of A.S. Anakha, the winner of the elections to the position of UUC. Visakh had not even fought the case. Police has registered a case in this connection. College principal Dr. G.J. Shaiju is the first accused and Visakh is the second.
39 UUCs are disqualified on the basis of the report submitted, by the University Committee, before the University Syndicate. Even though the organization-wise breakdown of the 39 UUCs is not available, most of them are likely to be SFI men. Because, 65 councilors out of 71 winners reportedly belong to SFI. Syndicate resolved to remove those 39 UUCs from the voters’ list. The age limit for contesting in college union election is well defined: 22 years for Degree students, 24 – 25 for PG & professional students and 30 for research students. 12 out of above 39 had completed the courses and had even collected the Transfer Certificates, a concret evidence for their delink from the colleges. Majority of the 27 candidates who had crossed the age limit were elected from B.Ed. colleges, the course for eligibility to work as high school teachers. There comes a lame excuse, that is, B. Ed. admission is for graduates hence they were erroneously awarded the age limit for the PG students!! Syndicate is going to see explanation from the concerned principals. However, 30 colleges have not responded to the varsity instructions. They will be served with show cause notices.
Meanwhile, in connection with the Kattakkata College Impersonation case, Syndicate resolved to slap a fine of Rs 1,55,938 on the suspended principal Dr. G.J. Shaiju. It is to compensate the expenses incurred by Kerala Varsity for investigation and follow up actions. The expenses include notifications published in three Malayalam dailies. University had also spent a handsome amount for renewing the voters list of all colleges.
The aforementioned issues should be viewed against the backdrop of the tall claims, of the ruling CPM and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) it leads, that Kerala is no: 1 in all aspects and it is almost equal to the European standards! They do not tolerate if someone says that Kerala is behind any BJP-ruled state in any respect. They are least bothered about the fact that Kerala boys and girls go to other parts of the state or abroad for education.
