PM Modi to grace Lachit Barphukan’s birth anniversary celebration

Guwahati: The yearlong celebration of 400th birth anniversary of Assam’s great warrior Lachit Barphukan will culminate in New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will grace the closing ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan on 25 November. The central program in the national capital, which will begin on Wednesday, is expected to be attended by many other dignitaries including Union home minister Amit Shah.
“A seminar on the golden era of the Ahom reign will be held on Wednesday. An exhibition will be organized in New Delhi on the same day, where various artifacts from the State museum will be displayed. It will be followed by a cultural evening in the national capital,” informed State chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
He also added that another seminar will be organised on 24 November and Union home minister Shah will attend an event where a documentary based on the life of Lachit Barphukan will be launched. Sarma assured that the documentary on the legendary Ahom general will be initiated to broadcast through various electronic media outlets in the country.
Meanwhile, a series of march-past parades by Assam police personnel, Indian army and paramilitary forces, Indian navy and air force personnel, NCC cadets were organised on Friday in each district of Assam. An essay writing competition will be organized tomorrow in educational institutions across the State.
Sarma also released theme song of the celebration, composed by Assamese singer Zubin Garg, at Janata Bhawan in the city on Thursday. He added that it’s a tribute to the valour and sacrifice of Mahabir Lachit Barphukan and the theme song would boost nationalistic fervor among the younger generation. Sarma also informed that the government has taken initiatives for beautification of Lachit Barphukan’s maidam at Holongapar in Jorhat.
