Sri Sri Sri Achutanand Giri Swami, who had been performing puja for the last 20 years at Akkancheruvu Palli Shiva Temple under Vedagiri Palli Panchayat, Irala Mandal, Puthalapattu constituency, Chittoor district, was killed at 8.30 pm on 26,January . Swami Achutananda’s hometown is Aragonda, Tamalampalle Mandal, Chittoor District. Achutananda also runs an ashram called Ramatirtha Seva Ashram near the Shiva temple. Lakshmamma hails from Magaralapally village in the Pakala Mandal and has been staying at the ashram for the last 13 years and doing divine service there. Lakshmamma was also in the ashram when the incident took place. However, she said she fled to a nearby mango grove in fear of death as the thugs tried to kill Swamiji.
Police SI Srikanth Reddy said that they were investigating the background of the case and would soon identify the culprits. Local BJP karyakartas Adinarayana and Munindrachari visited the spot. They said it was most painful to be so brutally murdered by a selfless servant who had dedicated his life to the service of God. They asked the Chittoor DSP to immediately identify the culprits and punish them severely.
