Assam Chief Minister Calls for Greater Recognition of the Northeast’s Stories of Courage and Transformation
New Delhi, August 25, 2026.
Grit & Glory, a book authored by Abhijit Joag and published by Suruchi Prakashan, was launched at a programme held at the Vichar Vinimay Nyas Auditorium in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, attended the event as the Chief Guest, while Hitesh Shankar, Editor of Panchjanya, was present as the Guest of Honour. Social worker Hari Maruti Mirasdar also addressed the gathering.
The book presents inspiring stories of individuals from northeastern region who have overcome adversity through resilience, determination and sustained effort. Their journeys reflect how ordinary people, through courage and commitment, have brought meaningful change to the lives of others and contributed to the development of their communities.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said – “Today, the slogans of nationalism are being raised in a resounding voice across Northeast. The feeling of alienation is giving way to a growing sense of belonging and togetherness. The Tricolour is flying proudly from every home. Behind this transformation lies the sacrifice and dedication of the workers of the Sangh. This book is a chronicle of the sacrifices made by those great men who laid down their lives for the nation.”
Hitesh Shankar said – “This book is more a story of awakening than merely a story of transformation in the Northeast. It contains experiential evidence as well as data.”
Social worker Hari Maruti Mirasdar said – “In the making of this book, interviews were conducted with 175 activists from different states of the country. Many activists still remain to be covered. This book is a good effort to document the history of those who sacrificed everything to create an environment in which the Tricolour could be unfurled.
Author Abhijit Joag spoke about the background of the book and briefly shared its content, explaining the experiences and stories that inspired him to undertake the project.
The programme began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by the welcome of the dignitaries and an introduction to Suruchi Prakashan. The author then introduced Grit & Glory and spoke about the experiences and stories that shaped the book. The formal launch was followed by addresses from the invited dignitaries.
Writers, intellectuals, media professionals, book lovers and members of the public, especially intellectuals from Noth East Bharat attended the programme.
Through its publishing initiatives, Suruchi Prakashan seeks to bring meaningful works on Bharat’s history, culture, society and national life to a wider readership. Grit & Glory adds to this endeavour by highlighting stories of courage, perseverance and transformation from the northeastern region of Bharat.
