Nalbari: Continuing to deliver on State government’s promise of micro-finance loan waiver to women beneficiaries, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday handed over cheques to 5032 category one (prompt payer) beneficiaries of Nalbari district.
Under the Assam Micro Finance Institutions Relief Scheme (AMFIRS), a total of 26,830 category one beneficiaries in the district are listed to receive financial support. They will be provided a one-time incentive up to rupees 25,000 (or outstanding balance whichever is less) so that they can continue maintaining good credit discipline.
At the beginning, Sarma paid tributes to legendary singer Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away in the morning hours. Urging all beneficiaries to use these incentives judiciously by engaging in entrepreneurship and productivity, Sarma commented that Assam cannot remain always dependent on other States for its food product requirements and all sections must strive towards making it Atma Nirbhar in true sense.
Assam loses out huge chunk of its revenue by importing food products like eggs, fish, poultry, meet, etc and there is a need for making the State self-reliant in all these sectors, he asserted adding that the government is striving to minimise troubles for the people and hence implementing Mission Basundhara, Project Sadbhabna etc to deliver swift and efficient public services through online mode.
He also called out against Chanda (donation) culture and asserted that it must end in Assam. Nobody should harass business community to collect donations for observing festivals. Sarma reiterated that the government would provide one lakh jobs and half of it is already in the process of being filled up. Sarma stated that both the government and public must join hands to usher in new work culture.
In presence of State ministers Ajanta Neog, Chandra Mohan Patowary and Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Parliamentarian Queen Oja, legislator Jayanta Malla Barua with other dignitaries, Sarma also laid the foundation stone of drainage facility project in Nalbari town, construction of embankment cum road on river Pagladia, Bilpar-Narikuchi road to Barkurkuriya, Kumar Vaskar Verma Kalakshetra, etc.
