Guwahati: Paying tributes to revered nationalist icon Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee on behalf of the people of Assam, State chief minister Dr
Himanta Biswa Sarma commented that the he will be remembered always for immense supports to Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi in saving Assam
from grouping during the partition of Bharat. Attending the Balidan Diwas program at Tangara Satra inside Guwahati
on Wednesday, CM Sarma also added that Dr Mookerjee made the supreme sacrifice for the nation. He will keep inspiring everyone for the
process of nation building, stated Sarma adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah realized his dream of
ek bidhan, ek nisan, ek pradhan by removing Article 370. It may be mentioned that on 23 June 1953, Dr Mookerjee, the first
Union industry minister of independent Bharat was found dead in a mysterious condition in the Jammu & Kashmir jail. Balidan Divas is
annually organised to remember his supreme sacrifice for the country’s unity and integrity.
The founder of BJP’s predecessor Bhartiya Jan Sangh attained the post of vice-chancellor in Kolkata University at the age
of 33 years and extended tremendous supports in expanding Assamese language teaching. Dr Mookerjee also played a vital role in
strengthening Bharat’s ties with Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Cambodia, etc.
Sarma, in presence of Dispur legislator Atul Bora and CM’s political secretary Jayanta Malla Baruah with others, inspected the Satra
premises after the program and urged the management committee to submit a proposal to the government for construction of a namghar, a
guest house, a paved pathway, a pond, etc within one month.
