Kerala. Former SFI leader Abin C Raj, who helped Nikhil Thomas in the fake certificate case detained by police. The police team probing the degree certificate forgery case against former SFI leader Nikhil Thomas took into custody Abin C Raj, the second accused in the case, on Monday night. Kayamkulam police detained him from airport once he landed at the airport from Maldives via Chennai.
It is learnt the police had earlier initiated the process to issue a red corner notice against Raj with the help of Interpol. However, Raj’s family cooperated with the police to bring him to Kerala. Following this, he flew to Kochi from Maldives via Chennai and the police team led by Kayamkulam DSP detained him at the airport. He will be taken to Kayamkulam where his arrest is likely to be recorded on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, police recovered the fake degree certificate submitted by Thomas at MSM College, Kayamkulam, to secure M.Com admission from his house. During the search conducted at his house on Sunday, the fake degree certificate of Kalinga University, mark list and migration certificate were found.
Abin C Raj was working as a teacher in Maldives. After registering the case, he was brought home. Nikhil had earlier testified that Abin had organized and given him a fake certificate. After the arrest, Nikhil had said that Abin had cheated and paid two lakh rupees for the certificate.
