
Kerala – Riyas Aboobacker found guilty by Kochi NIA Court for planning series of blasts
Kochi NIA court has declared Riyas Aboobacker, a native of Kollengode, Palakkad, guilty of planning a series of blasts in Kerala. Aboobacker was found guilty under sections 38 and 39 of the UAPA and 120B of the IPC.
Riyas Aboobacker, a native of Kollengode, Palakkad, was the accused in the case, and he was arrested by the NIA on May 15, 2018, from Kasaragod.
The NIA has found that the terrorist was a follower of Sri Lankan Easter bombing mastermind Zahran Hashim and had planned for a similar series of blasts in Kerala too. The NIA has also collected evidence against him for attempting to hire youth for the terrorist group through social media. This case was also part of the Kasaragod IS case.
Aa per media reports, the report submitted in the court by NIA, Aboobacker had decided to be a suicide attacker on behalf of IS and he had planned to conduct suicide blasts at various places in Kerala as directed by Abdul Rashid who is the major accused in IS recruitment case. NIA had found out that Aboobacker and his aides had been working hard to propagate IS ideology in Kerala. Following this, the NIA interrogated him and received information regarding the plans for the suicide attacks. NIA submitted in the court the report in which two others were also named as the accused. They later became approvers.
