PCI issues show cause notice to Frontline magazine for showing incorrect map of Bharat

New Delhi. The Press Council of India (PCI), has taken suo-motu cognisance against the English magazine ‘Frontline’ for depicting an incorrect map of Bharat on the cover page of its recent issue dated August 10-23, 2024. This judicial intervention by the PCI highlights the critical importance of maintaining geographical accuracy in publications.

Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, Chairperson of the Press Council of India, issued a formal show cause notice to ‘Frontline’s editor. The notice, released on August 8, 2024, signifies the PCI’s serious concerns regarding the magazine’s cartographical error and its potential impact on upholding the nation’s territorial integrity.

The notice requires the editor to furnish an explanation regarding the inaccuracies found in the map and the measures undertaken to correct the misinformation.
