RuPay cards & UPI services to be launched in Mauritius and SriLanka

New Delhi.

MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) announced on Sunday that Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services will be inaugurated in Sri Lanka and Mauritius on February 12. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth are slated to witness the launch of UPI services in both countries on Monday. Additionally, RuPay card services will be introduced in Mauritius.

This significant development will facilitate the accessibility of UPI settlement services for Indian nationals traveling to Sri Lanka and Mauritius, as well as for Mauritian nationals journeying to Bharat. The extension of RuPay card services in Mauritius will empower Mauritian banks to issue cards based on the RuPay mechanism, promoting the usage of RuPay Cards for transactions in both Bharat and Mauritius.

“India has emerged as a leader in Fintech innovation and Digital Public Infrastructure. Prime Minister has placed a strong emphasis on sharing our development experiences and innovation with partner countries,” the government has said.
