GUWAHATI, Dec 24 – Members of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) today staged demonstrations at all the district headquarters of the State in protest against the failure of the State Government to provide security to the life and property of the innocent people and also brutality perpetrated by the militant outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) against innocent people.
Members of the student body also burnt effigies of the Chief Minister at the headquarters of those districts in which the incidents of attacks on the innocent people took place yesterday and today.
The demonstrators also covered their faces with black cloths and hoisted black flags, said a statement of the student body.
The student body has also appealed to all parties concerned to shun violence.
KMSS: The district committees of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) burnt effigies of NDFB(S) leader Songbijit, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in protest against the incidents of attack on the innocent Adivasi people.
Others: Sanmilita Janagosthiya Aikya Mancha (SJAM) members today staged a demonstration in front of the Assam Bhawan in New Delhi in protest against the incidents of heinous attacks on the Adivasis by NDFB (S) militants.
They demanded immediate steps to rehabilitate those affected by the incidents, restore normalcy in the affected areas and to punish the perpetrators of the crimes, said SJAM spokesman Brajen Mahanta while speaking to this newspaper. He also blamed the indifference of the governments in the State and at the Centre as well for the incidents.
The All Assam Tribal Sangha also has condemned the killing of innocent people by NDFB (S).
In a joint statement, the Lakhimpur District Committee of the All Adivasi Women Association of Assam, Women in Governance, Assam, Nari Mukti Sangram Samiti, Assam and Pragati Nari Santha have also condemned the attacks on the Adivasi people. They said in their statement that killing of innocent people cannot be part of a liberation struggle.
