Guwahati: Newly appointed Assam unit president of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Bhabesh Kalita assured all possible supports to
the government in all kinds of development activities. Attending the first State BJP executive committee meeting on Tuesday after becoming its
president, Kalita in presence of BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda, State chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma with others, vowed
to strengthen the party on the ground.
Addressing the meeting virtually from New Delhi, Nadda emphasized on various welfare activities including the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination
drive as a mission mode. He asked CM Sarma and also Kalita to give utmost priority in the vaccination drive.
Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi allocated 35,000 crore rupees for the mission, Nadda termed it as the largest and fastest
vaccination program in the world, where India has vaccinated more than the US, France and Britain among other countries.
Earlier stating it as a huge responsibility, Kalita assured the party workers that he would give his best to the new responsibility. The
Saffron legislator from Rongia assembly constituency in lower Assam, appreciated former State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, now a
cabinet minister in the BJP led coalition government, for his disciplined and strong leadership in the last four and half years.
Hailing from Sutarkuchi village under Kamrup district, Kalita is a law graduate and served as a minister in Sarbananda Sonowal’s cabinet
in last BJP led government of Assam. A follower of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh ideology, Kalita was poured with wishes from the
party leaders and workers on the ground. Speculations in Assam arose that Sonowal could be given the
responsibility as he was replaced by Sarma after winning the last State assembly polls. Moreover, Sonowal vowed to serve the State and
showed no interest in any engagement in New Delhi. Besides him, Union minister Rameswar Teli and Parliamentarian Kamakhya Prasad Tasa were
also projected for the post.
