Bishop Varghese Chakkalakal said that Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) will not harm anyone. The CAA will benefit everyone and it is better to implement a law that accepts everyone in the country. Bishop Varghese Chakalakal was talking to media persons after meeting BJP leader and MP, Prakash Javadekar.
Bishop Chakkalakal firmly said that the government would refrain from proceeding with the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) if it resulted in harm to anyone. He explained that the CAA does not deport anyone but rather gives everyone an identity. Bishop Chakkalakal said that the Modi government should not be blamed for implementing the CAA. Reflecting on a meeting with the Prime Minister six years ago, he mentioned expressing prayers for him during their interaction.
“The Modi government is undertaking several commendable initiatives. I have never sensed that minorities are unsafe under Modi regime. While some untoward incidents are happening in the country, they may not necessarily be with the knowledge of senior leaders and could be isolated incidents,” he stated.
