Today is the 3rd day of ongoing Chhath Puja festival celebrations. Devotees will offer Sandhya Arghya to the setting Sun, at different Chhath Ghats located on banks of river. Large number of devotees will perform the ritual at water bodies, reservoirs and makeshift arrangements on roof of their houses.
The four day festival will culminate tomorrow morning with oblations to rising Sun.
In view of huge turnout of devotees on banks of rivers, elaborate security arrangements have been made for crowd management across Bihar. Plying of private boats have been banned till the end of puja. Personnel of the NDRF and SDRF have been deployed with divers to tackle any eventuality. For the safety of devotees during holy dip and oblations, barricades have been put in water at the Chhath ghats.
President Droupadi Murmu extended greetings on the occasion of Chhath puja. In her message, she said, “On the auspicious occasion of Chhath Puja, the holy festival of faith, fasting and devotion, I extend my hearty congratulations and warm wishes to all my fellow citizens”.
“This festival also worships the rivers and ponds, the unique gifts of nature. Through rigorous fasting, this festival purifies our minds and souls. This festival inspires one to protect and preserve the environment. On the occasion of Chhath Puja, let us re-affirm our faith in Bhagwan Surya, our rivers and the bounty of nature. May this festival bring happiness in our lives and may our reverence for nature continue to grow.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the nation on the third day of the Chhath festival today. In a social media post, he said that the Chhath Sandhya Arghya festival is a symbol of simplicity, restraint, determination, and dedication. He further wished that this great festival bring happiness, prosperity, and good fortune to everyone’s life.
